Roy Zimmerman Benefit Concert a Smashing Success
“Funny Songs About War, Ignorance, and Greed – a benefit concert featuring the music of Roy Zimmerman – was an unqualified hit! The Norman UU Fellowship came close to maxing out the Fire Marshall’s limit and Roy kept the crowd in almost continuous laughter for well over two hours. In fact, they insisted on an encore which may have produced the most memorable medley of songs of the evening. Roy wrapped it up with a poignant, yet hilarious piece, Psychedelic Relic which touched the heart and soul of those old enough to remember their beatnik days in the 60s and 70s. It also kept the younger set in stitches. This was definitely a do again and Roy has promised to return.

Founders List
I feel I must apologize in advance for this list. I’m sure it is not totally accurate. If I have left off your name, PLEASE let me know. You can reach me by email or phone: 405 474-0695 or mfrancis1@earthlink.net. Also, I am unsure of preferred titles and first names. I need to hear from you. Please help me make corrections.
To become a Founder, we ask for a donation or in-kind contribution, made prior to the FCC awarding of the Broadcast License. We don’t know for sure when that will be. We do know that the FCC is looking at our Mx group and our attorney and engineer have collaborated and filed a petition to have one of our competitors thrown out. After any FCC ruling, there is a 30 day period for appeals. We promise to let you know as soon as they rule.

Front Page Sunday Article In Norman Transcript
Yup – and in color, too! M. Scott Carter, journalist with the Norman Transcript, has been doing a series of profiles on what one might call “persons of interest.†Last Sunday, his article about our VOICES of REASON Radio made the Transcript’s front page. You can read this article at http://www.normantranscript.com/archivesearch/local_story_279012330. The wonderful thing is – Scott has been getting calls and emails asking for our contact info! And the ‘ListCop’ of Grassroots Radio put it on the GRC listserv. Thank you, Scott Carter and MichaelP!

UUVoicesOfReason.com
Our VOICES of REASON website is up!
Many Thanks to Gene Perry, our webmaster, who continues to add features, as we speak. We now have a forum. Sarah Warmker suggested that most of us receive waaaaay too many emails. Now we can go to the Forum and see all the messages at one time in one place and avoid all that “reply all†nonsense. Thanks Gene and Sarah. Go to http://uuvoicesofreason.org/ and check it out. And leave us a message!

New Prospects For Big Federal Grant
On our regular Monday phone conference with Pacifica’s Ursula Reudenberg, Guest Martina Tran gave us information about PTFP grants from the Federal government. These grants provide 75% of startup costs for radio tower, transmitter, electrification, studio, and other capital needs. In some instances a group may qualify for 100% grants. Last year they gave out over $19 million! If you are a grant writer or want to help, contact Mike Givel at;
“Dr. Michael Givel” mgivel@ou.edu. We are also looking at some professional help in grant writing, thanks to Martina’s information.

And still no word from the FCC on whether or not they will throw out the application of South Central Oklahoma Christians. Should you want to keep up with this yourself, the FCC sends out a Daily Digest of all their decisions. Glad things are progressing. Clearly there are a lot of skills and talent between all the folks involved, and this project has a lot of potential.
Anyone else thing we can do better than HORDE for a name though? I like “Hands On” group for short, is an acronym really necessary?
Hope to see you all at the next meeting.
How about “R-A-D Group” ==Radio Advisory & Development group ?
Leave your response!
We need your support!
The FCC has awarded Voices of Oklahoma a construction permit to build a full-power radio station. We have until 2013 to begin broadcasting, and we need to raise funds to build a tower and purchase the necessary equipment.
We have already been offered a very generous matching gift of $12,500 from an anonymous donor. Can you help us reach that goal? Every dollar you give will be doubled!
Follow the links below to make a one-time or recurring tax-deductible donation online. You can also mail a check to:
