Hello Founders and Supporters!

(Yes … we are now Voices of Oklahoma. See Update #12 on our website www.voicesofOK.org for that story - www.uuvoicesofreason.org still works.)

Webzine has Launched!

Gene Perry, our webmaster, has put together Voices of Oklahoma Webzine which you can access at www.voicesofOK.org. Check out commentaries, news, essays, poems, interviews, photos and more – or send us yours!

Find us at GrooveFest, Sunday at Andrews Park

Tomorrow, April 26, we will have a table at GrooveFest in Andrews Park, table #13. In case of rain, the Festival will move to Opolis on Crawford.

Norman Music Festival: Added 40 New Supporters!

Yes! Today we put up our banner, passed out brochures and signed up 39 new supporters and one new Founder! We are now at 521 Founders and Supporters.

Speaking at Tyner Cornbread & Beans, May 8

Mary Francis will be the speaker at Tyner CB&B, the regular Friday meeting of the Cleveland County Democratic Party. She will give a brief history of Community Radio and how it enhances a community’s quality of life and promotes civil discourse. Lunch, drinks and gratuity are $7, or simply attend for free. The program starts at 12 noon.
World Fair Trade Day, May 9: Farmer’s Market

Fair Trade Day, May 9

On Saturday, May 9, Voices of Oklahoma Community Radio and the Unitarian Universalists will offer Free samples of Fair Trade coffee and Fair Trade chocolate at the Farmer’s Market in Norman. Go by the Cleveland County Fairgrounds between 8 am and 2 pm to visit with Voices of Oklahoma and get your Fair Trade samples. Unitarians Universalists have supported Fair Trade for years and regularly serve Fair Trade coffee at all their events.

Logo for Banner, Brochures, Cards

Attached is our new brochure which features the Voices of Oklahoma logo. We think it gets the essential message across in a simple, direct visual. What do you think? Send us feedback! Use our website to contact us or email Mary Francis at mfrancis1@earthlink.net.

Mission Statement

The Voices of Oklahoma Project endeavors to operate a community-based, noncommercial media outlet serving McClain, Garvin and southern Cleveland counties. We strive to promote civic responsibility, an informed citizenry, and respectful dialogue expressing the diverse cultural and artistic perspectives of all members of our community, with special attention to those without a voice in other media. Toward that end, we offer programming with a local focus that expresses the values of peace, justice, democracy, and human rights. We provide training and broadcasting opportunities to community members who further our mission and enrich the community dialogue.

This is an experiment, but it's a good time for experiments. A couple of months ago, The Oklahoma Gazette reported that only one reporter, from OETA, visits the capitol building every day. They wrote that the total number of journalists covering our state government is in the teens, compared to 39 reporters in 1978...
