Read the full story »OU will see no increase in tuition and fees this year despite a near 5 percent state budget cut equaling nearly $1 million for August alone.
Several cost-cutting measures the university enacted in the past few years made the steady tuition possible, including a reserve that will give OU approximately $5 to $10 million over the next few months, said Jay Doyle, university spokesman.
The reserves will help the university through the next five to six months without affecting students, faculty or staff, OU President David Boren said in a statement.

Oklahoma City Public Schools will have full-day kindergarten at all of its elementary schools when classes start Thursday. Full-day classes seem to be the most popular to parents though the district still offers half-day kindergarten.

Read the full story »State and local education officials in Oklahoma preparing for the upcoming school year received a most unwelcome back-to-school present with word of a state revenue shortfall.
State financial officials ordered a 5-percent across-the-board cut in budget allocations to state agencies, which education officials warned could have both short- and long-term effects.
Both Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma said Wednesday they anticipated the shortfall and made contingency plans that should spare students and faculty for now. But OU President David Boren said if shortfalls increase, that could lead to “disruptive” cuts.
